Sustainability
Sustainability is a matter of course for us. In our way of growing, the products we use and in our business operations, we always make the most conscious and sustainable choice possible. Everything we do, we do with an eye and respect for people, nature and the environment. To keep our environmental footprint to a minimum.
Putting sustainability into practice:
Residual heat | Our Maasland site is connected to the heat system of a nearby grower. We use this grower's residual heat to heat the greenhouse. In this way, no energy is lost. A great example of local cooperation.
Second production layer | We make optimal use of the surface area of our Phalaenopsis nursery in Maasdijk with a cultivation layer above the processing area. This allows us to grow more plants on the same square metres, which only need to be heated once. That saves a lot of energy.
CHP | With combined heat and power (CHP), we generate both electricity and heat in one process. As a result, drastically less energy is lost during the production of electricity.
Heat pump | With a heat pump, we reduce our overall gas consumption. Instead, we use electricity, but proportionally we save a considerable amount of CO2. So a smarter choice.
Thermal energy storage | With underground wells at our Phalaenopsis nursery in Maasdijk, we alternately store heat and cold: heat in summer and cold in winter. In winter, we use the stored heat to heat the greenhouse and in summer we use the stored cold to cool the greenhouse.
Biological crop protection | We use natural pest control agents as much as possible to combat diseases and pests. Bugs against bugs. Sounds very logical and we think it is. But do we need crop protection for optimal plant health? Then we make a conscious choice, naturally within the set standards, rules and guidelines.
